Advanced Fibre Course OP-456-88 is a 4 day course that gives you an extended range of fibre skills and experience of the widest range of fibre joints, more testing scenarios and a greater range of terminating techniques covering FTTx, Data Centre and Telecom scenarios. A practical course based around a full introduction to the technology and 26 practical exercises supported by a comprehensive workbook and training notes. The course is suitable for individuals, telecom and datacomm installers, aerospace and rail companies, renewable energy providers, power utilities, oil and gas and military organizations.
We start with an introduction to fibre so that you understand how fibre works, its benefits and how to calculate loss budgets. We follow up with 18 hours of the most comprehensive hands on splicing and jointing during which you will make an in-line joint, a patch panel, a fibre wall box, a dome ended flexibility joint, FTTx distribution and subscriber joints and a high density data centre termination panel. In addition you will learn how to get the best out of the splicer and cleaver and about maintenance of the equipment and which tools to use.
The Testing modules include 8 hours of hands on OTDR and loss testing. As a result you will master the OTDR, learn how to configure the testers, store and compare traces and generate OTDR and loss test reports. Exercises include testing short links, long cables and through splitters. As a result you build an ability to interpret fibre faults such as bends, bad splices, poor connectors and components. Finally we go on to learn how to terminate connectors using epoxy/polish, fusion splice on connectors and mechanical splice connectors. You will also learn to clean and inspect connectors. By the end of the course you will be proficient in the following:
